Let me start by saying I would not be typing this if I didn’t go through this. At 9 and a half weeks pregnant our family went to a water park for the day. Being pregnant, I didn’t feel comfortable going into the water from all the chlorine and possible urine from small children, so my husband and I went to spend time with the family rather than swimming.
Within an hour of arriving and getting through the gates, we settled down and went on the hunt for food (mainly nachos). We paid and waited about 10 minutes for them to be made, and then headed over to the bar area so my husband can get a drink. While over there he placed his order and I told him “I’m going to see the slushie flavors, I want to know what the green one is”. After looking and seeing a Mango flavor I was going to tell him I wanted it, but my husband being him already knew and was halfway over to me with the money for it. I got into line and felt fine. Two families’ orders were taken for drinks (they wanted the same thing, slushies). When I got up to the counter she asked if I’m okay waiting while she fills the drinks, I told her no problem considering I was in the shade. I watched her move not even 10 feet away grab the first cup and start pouring it.
This is the last thing I remember being able to see. My vision very fast started to tunnel from the edges of my sight and became black. I didn’t know what was going on so started to panic and say “miss, miss, I’m pregnant and something going on.” A nearby person came up to me and asked “miss are you okay?!?” from that second I fainted and remember feeling like falling but someone was holding onto me lowering me into a safe fall. Very staggering breathing I was able to describe my husband’s name, clothes, and location before falling back out. When I came to I saw my husband’s shoes and a bunch of lifeguards around me. I physically couldn’t pick up my head, or get a good breath in. The lifeguards started shoving icepacks under my armpits and covering my neck with them. They got me onto a wheelchair and took me to the first-aid office. This was probably within 3 minutes of my vision tunneling. To me, it felt like seconds. They took down all my information and checked my vitals. The main concern was my body temperature was at 99.7F meaning my core body temp rose from being in the heat. During pregnancy, this is extremely bad to happen and can harm the developing baby. He told me to just rest and try to lower my body temp by keeping the ice packs under my arms and on my neck. Within 30 minutes of getting to the first aid center, my body temp lowered and my body shakes were very minimal. The scariest time of my life!
the biggest difference is heat stroke your body temp is elevated or over 102’F. Every other than is the exact same! These symptoms include but are not limited to: – headache, dizziness, confusion, loss of appetite, excessive sweating, paleness, clamminess, cramps in the arms, legs, or stomach, fast breathing, rapid heart rate, and a high temperature, and being thirsty –
I had on my Amazon Halo watch (this is the exact one I have and I do not pay for the subscription service) and it CAUGHT my blackout and fainting. Never in my life did I think a heath watch would catch something like this. My heart was beating at 167BPM! That is just as fast as my baby’s heart rate! This is usually associated with the sound of a galloping horse. I was very lucky to have someone spot me or hear me and help me out. If it wasn’t for that stranger I would have slammed on the cement when I passed out.
After this incident, my husband and I started scouring google and found out a few things that are very helpful to pass on to a pregnant woman in the summer heat. If you live somewhere where the temp is over 86’F then don’t go outside for long periods of time, avoid direct sun, stay hydrated, and make sure to eat.
This is my baby registry that I’m always adding to! If you purchase something from here it will get sent to me! Thank you for all of your support during this time! Advice is always appreciated and accepted! God bless you and your littles!
