Why Fall Cleaning Matters Before the Holidays.

Get your home ready for the holidays by cleaning out gently-used kids’ clothes and toys and donating them to families who need them most.

1. Kids grow fast - Really fast.

When my first was born, he was so tiny that preemie clothes were big on him. I remember all the nurses would tell me to soak in the time now because once we go home, he will start growing extremely fast. By the time he was 9 months, he was wearing 18-month clothes.

It went like this with all 3 of my children. Hand down clothes for the biggest win of all. I would clean out clothes that one child grew out of and would keep them until the next child could use them. Im currently using some PJ’s on my 9-month-old that were gifted to my oldest that he never got to use.

2. Toys get forgotten long before they get worn out.

We are huge on buying second-hand toys because kids will play with them for a few hours to a few days, and they get forgotten about.

We don’t feel guilty throwing out toys or giving them away because we know that we paid next to nothing. That being said, we have no problem letting our children go wild at yard sales and thrift stores for toys because we pay very little and walk away with so much.

3. Donations matter more before the holidays.

I know you usually hear “spring cleaning” but I truly believe that fall cleaning is way superior. I went through everything. Every. Thing.

I filled about six 20-gallon trash bags with toys, clothes, and other items we don’t need anymore. I was so happy to find out that a teacher we see weekly was able to pass a whole bag of toys to another family that had no toys for their children. The other bags went to a thrift store we shop at frequently. I specifically chose that thrift store because they don’t overprice name-brand or unused things.

Before I recently got very sick, my father in law found all the toys we put into storage and im very happy to know that well over 90% will be given away to children in need for free for the holidays.

My children have been incredibly blessed with a family that loves them and has bought them so much that we get to pass these toys and clothes along to another family that could use the things we don’t have a use for anymore.
