It was Father’s day 2022 and I took a test in the morning because I was supposed to start my menstrual cycle. I only tested because I didn’t start. I ended up throwing away the test because I thought it was negative. I felt super hungry not long after thinning I had a negative test. I kept going back and forth between the two fridges, trying to find something to eat, but nothing looked good to me. My husband picked up on me going back and forth, leading him to ask me if I’m okay. This is beyond weird for him to ask me “are you okay?” so I immediately went and tested again. This time making sure to stare at it as the test window filled. I watched the control line come up and started to gradually see the test line appear! I freaked out, pulling the one I threw away to look at it…It was blazing positive! I pulled out a little onesie iv had and the little booties, placing them out with the test to show my husband. He was just as excited to receive the news as I was.
I always know to call my doctor right away and let them know that I got a positive pregnancy test. To my surprise, they did not set up a blood panel or urine test to confirm. Instead, they set up a doctors appt at the woman health center. The appointment was a month away to ensure the pregnancy progresses, and so they will be able to see something on the Ultrasound. Before I could make my appointment at 5 weeks pregnant I started spotting leading me to freak out thinking I was having a miscarriage. My husband took me to the hospital right away after my mother-in-law advised him to take me to ensure the baby is safe.
At the hospital, they asked a bunch of questions. These questions were just the start of things because I still get asked the same questions every time I talk to a doctor, nurse, or anything concerning my pregnancy. The common questions I get asked are:
“What was the first day of your last menstrual cycle?”
“How long are your cycles?”
“What is your estimated due date?”
“Are you experiencing abdominal pain”
“Does it burn when you go to the restroom?”
“How far along are you in your pregnancy?”
Get used to these questions and also have to give a million and 10 blood samples. Im pretty much BFFs with the girls at the blood center.
the hospital sent me home on bed rest orders, and to follow up with my primary doctor in 1-2 days. I tried to make an appointment but they were booked so they set up an over-the-phone visit with the soonest available nurse that can refer me to a specialist. After 6 weeks and 4 days, I returned to the hospital because I was passing blood clots. I went through all the emotions again feeling like I might miscarry but they did a pelvic exam and told me I’m at a “threatened” miscarriage because my cervix is closed. If it was open it would be considered a “spontaneous abortion”. This means my body was not letting go of the baby but if my cervix was open then my body is releasing the baby leading to the spontaneous abortion/miscarriage. I was to return to bed rest until I see the primary doctor.
Once I saw the primary doctor they told me that my HCG levels have over tripled so the pregnancy is progressing. They also prescribed me some stuff to help with morning sickness (B6 vitamin). They also set up the appointment so I can hear the baby’s heartbeat and get to see them! I will be 12 weeks pregnant when we go for our first ultrasound, but I am currently 8 weeks and 3 days pregnant (at the time of typing this blog). I have morning sickness super bad in the morning and haven’t been able to sleep the greatest, other than that I’m loving every moment of this pregnancy and pray that the little bean keeps progressing and growing.
This is my baby registry that I’m always adding to! If you purchase something from here it will get sent to me! Thank you for all of your support during this hard time! Advice is always appreciated and accepted! God bless you and your littles!
